Hadley moves in front at Midwest Classic

FoxNews.com – Chesson Hadley birdied his final three holes Saturday to grab a 1-stroke lead at the Midwest Classic.

Hadley, who secured his first career Web.com Tour win at the Rex Hospital Open in June, began the third round three strokes off the pace before firing an 8- under 63 at Nicklaus Golf Club at LionsGate. He is 15-under-par 198 through 54 holes.

“The putter felt really good today,” said Hadley. “It was an awesome round today. I got off to a good start which is key for me.”

KansasCity.com – Chesson Hadley easily pinpoints when his golf season turned around.

It came May 19 on the first nine holes in the final round of the Web.com Tour’s BMW Charity Pro-Am in Greer, S.C. Hadley needed just 27 strokes to complete those nine holes and finished with a 63, giving him a tie for third place.

Hadley has had three strong finishes since, including a win last month in his hometown of Raleigh, N.C., and has all but clinched his PGA Tour card for next season.

NewsObserver.com – Hadley, in contrast, took a one-shot lead into the third round and promptly bogeyed the first two holes. He bounced back with two straight birdies, but double-bogeyed the par-4 10th hole after a poor shot.

“I was planning my post-round misery speech on hole 13,” he said.

But at the 15th, Hadley holed out from 40 yards out of the rough — “The sexiest little flop,” he said — for an eagle 3. He followed with a 30-foot birdie putt at the par-3 16th, then knocked it tight at the 18th for a birdie and 2-under 69.

“Pins were tucked and you just can’t go firing one in there like you normally would. I didn’t make many putts today which was fine. I hit some really good shots and stayed patient all day which was the key to playing well.”

Hadley leads Web.com Rex Hospital Open after second hometown round

PGA.com – Raleigh rookie Chesson Hadley fired a 2-under 69 Friday and moved into first place at the halfway mark of the Rex Hospital Open, the mid-point event on the 2013 Web.com Tour schedule.

Hadley, who grew up minutes away from the TPC Wakefield Plantation, stands at 1-under 132 and one stroke in front of Jason Gore (68), Edward Loar (65) and Danny Lee (66).
